Your favourite birthday or celebration.

I like birthdays. I like throwing birthday parties. Specifically, children’s birthday parties. When my son was small, starting with his first birthday, I started planning and throwing fairly elaborate parties. Handmade invitations, decorations, cakes.

His first was Pocoyo. Second – Mega Blocks. Third – dinosaurs. Fourth – race cars. Fifth – monster trucks. Sixth – Super Mario. Seventh – Pokemon. Eight – Minecraft. Nine – I don’t think we did a party. Ten – Gaming with Lil BG. Eleven – Fortnight. Twelve was supposed to be a Switch Gaming party, but we had to cancel it because of the Covid outbreak. After that, he kind of outgrew Mom thrown parties.

I don’t seem to have pictures of his first two parties, which is a shame (I know my husband has pictures, so not all is lost) as they were fantastic! I have amazing memories from all the parties.

I think my favourite was the Super Mario party – from the invites (which were a motion invite – they slid up (via a plastic bag insert) to reveal a “level up” birthday surprise, to the Piranha plant decor & the “King Boo” balloons hanging from the ceilings. A bunch of little kids running around with fake mustaches, making wildly outlandishes pizzas, and the smile on my son’s face. He has loved all his parties – but that one fell at the time when his favourite game, his favourite things, was his Wii U and Super Mario.

So while this maybe was supposed to be about my favourite birthday or celebration, my choice would always be those involving my son!
