The people who were by your side during difficult times.
While there is a wider network I can turn to, I think everyone has a couple key people they rely on. These are my people.
My sister. I would not exist if I didn’t have her in my life, plain and simple. She was my anchor when I was a teenager. A younger sister who kept me grounded, lifted my spirits, and always helped me find trouble. As an adult, whenever there is a problem or trouble, I know she will be there, no questions asked. Whether it is a funny meme, a ridiculous reel, or a serious conversation, I always know if I text (or call), she will answer.
Chris. I talk about him a lot when I write, but with good reason. He is always there. When I couldn’t keep things straight with my meds post-surgery, he set timers on his phone to help me (I seriously couldn’t keep my timers straight). It was Covid-times so I was alone in the hospital. Chris kept me company with video calls and we watched TV together. When I got the biopsy results on my thyroid – he was with me. When I can’t think of the right words to write, he’s the voice that helps me.
My Mom, my sister-in-law, my niece, my step Mom, my Mom friends (The Gossip Gals) are always there for me too. I just have to reach out, which we all know is sometimes the hardest part!
