Day 13: Surprises

The sweetest surprise someone planned for you.

I love surprises. Like a lot. I have always liked to plan surprises, the problems is, not many people I know like surprises! So, I plan small ones. Dates, gifts, anything I think might make people smile.

Surprises are my thing, not so much that of those around me. I have been a surprised a few times – like the Valentine’s Day my husband blew me out of the water by having flowers delivered.

He had only given me flowers once – some twenty two years before, so the Sunday morning as we sat having breakfast, seeing some walk up our sidewalk, something in his arms, I was certain he had the wrong house. I was unimaginably surprised by the roses!

The other time I was sweetly surprised, I kind of wrote about when my work colleagues surprised me with a side trip to Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba. They knew of my 50×50 countdown and desire to see new national parks, so they decided to take a side trip, unbeknownst to me. We visited a couple of lakes in the park, had ice cream, and spent the afternoon together touring around and ‘team building’.

Both the flowers and the road trip were wonderful surprises and I’m very grateful to both my husband and my friends for so kindly and sweetly doing them for me.
